The Brown Pelican is a common sight along the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts and is a frequent visitor to the shores, docks, beaches, ports and bays along these coastal regions.

The brown pelican is a very large stocky bird that has a gray-brown body with a long bill and pouch under the bill. The adult brown pelicans have a light yellow crown. During the summer the back of the neck is chestnut brown and in winter changes to white. The Brown Pelican weighs between 6 and 9 pounds and their wingspan is up to 8 feet.

The Brown Pelican is also the Official State Bird of Louisiana.

Construction starts with a standard U.S. Post Office approved mailbox, around which we construct a cage made out of exterior B.C. plywood. Then we cover the plywood with layers of Western Cedar. This gives the textured layered look to our sculputured Pelican Mailbox. The door and back are then covered in cedar for a finished look. We add a wooden baseplate to the bottom of the mailbox for post mounting.

After construction, the Pelican is then sent to the spray booth, where he is painted inside and out with a protective layer of exterior paint. Then he moves on to the art studio where our artists add their own mix of realistic colors and details to bring him to life. Only the finest of our exterior acrylic enamel is used in our painting.And as a final step, we add multiple coats of exterior polyurethane as a protective layer. This method of layered cedar construction and painting gives our Pelican Mailbox the durability to withstand the elements for years to come.
